Air Seal System

Manufacturing starts with carefully selected wood, cut into sheets with diagonal ends. The sheets are fitted into a mold and hand-hammered into place by a skilled craftsman. The angled ends let the craftsman fine-tune the sheet length to maintain even tension throughout the shell. Inside the shell, a technique similar to an airbag is used: it inflates under high pressure and applies even pressure to the inner surface of the shell, creating a perfectly round shell with consistent thickness and excellent durability. This process, the Air Seal System, has been used by Yamaha for over 40 years.

Hardware and Setup

The bass drum features a tube stabilizer on the pedal side, allowing height adjustment so the beater strikes the center of the batter head. A memory clamp on the tube slides into a dedicated receiver on the underside of the bass drum, enabling fast and precise height recall. Die-cast claw hooks with rubber coating reduce unwanted rattle, and the bass drum legs feature stoppers that make setup easier.
