Tama Starphonic Bubinga PBC146

Product Description

The Tama Starphonic Bubinga PBC146 is a snare drum with a bubinga shell that delivers deep character and a distinct tone. It can be tuned extremely low without losing body or core, yet still surprises with a full bottom end when tuned high.

Tone and tuning

The PBC146 stands out among Tama's Bubinga snares more for its tonal range than its volume. It's not as loud as the other Bubinga snares in the series, but it responds instantly even under hard playing.

Construction

The shell is built from 8 plies of bubinga with an outer layer of 1 ply of Cordia, for a total thickness of 7 mm. The strainer is a Linear-Drive type with ratchet-style snare adjustment with tight settings on both sides, giving precise control over snare wire tension.

The snare wires are Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon, giving a warm and clear top end. The hoops are Grooved Hoops. Stable tuning hoops that produce an open tone and enhance the shell's unique tuning range.

Freedom Lug and Claw Hook offer a quick and simple way to change heads, while reinforcing both the vintage sound and the look of the drum.

Heads

The drum ships with Evans heads: a B14G1 Coated batter head and an S14H30 Hazy snare-side head.
