Vic Firth American Classic Extreme 5A - Vic Grip

The Vic Firth X5AVG is an American Classic Extreme 5A drumstick with a Vic Grip surface – a thin rubber coating on the grip area for a noticeably firmer hold. The Extreme version adds an extra 1/2" of length compared to a standard 5A, giving extra reach and power. A solid pick if your hands get sweaty or you want to reach the whole kit comfortably.

The Vic Grip coating is applied thinly along the grip area and doesn't change the feel of the stick otherwise – in every other respect this is a standard American Classic Extreme 5A.

Extra Reach, Same Character

Compared to a regular 5AVG, the X5AVG offers a slightly different balance and feel thanks to the added length, along with extra power and reach. A good option if a standard 5A feels a touch short for comfortably covering the whole kit.

Construction

Turned from select hickory, a dense wood with little flex that gives a more pronounced sound while withstanding a lot of shock for good durability. The tip is a wood Tear Drop shape, deeply back-cut for intensified cymbal response. Taper is medium.
