Vic Firth X5APG Extreme 5A PureGrit Wood - PureGrit

Product Description

The Vic Firth X5APG Extreme 5A PureGrit is an unlacquered drumstick in select American hickory from the American Classic line, finished with a special sanding process instead of lacquer for a soft, natural feel in the hand. Aside from the finish, the model is identical to a standard Extreme 5A, but the extended length gives a different balance, more power, and greater reach.

Instead of lacquer, Vic Firth uses a sanding process on the PureGrit models, resulting in a raw, natural, gritty texture. It gives a secure, comfortable grip without feeling sticky or slick, while keeping the natural feel of the wood throughout the stick.

Balance and reach

The Extreme 5A design is slightly longer than a standard 5A, giving a different balance in the hand and more power behind each stroke. If you feel a standard 5A is a bit short to comfortably reach across your whole kit, this is a good option. You get extra reach without losing the classic 5A feel.

Construction

The stick is turned from American hickory, a wood chosen for its combination of tone, durability, and ability to absorb vibration. The tip is a wood Tear Drop tip, giving a round, full sound against heads and cymbals. Taper is Medium.

Who It's For

A good choice if you already like a 5A but want a bit more length and power, and if you prefer a raw, unlacquered texture in hand rather than a smooth, lacquered stick.
