Vic Firth Vickick VKB5
Product Description
The Vic Firth VKB5 Vickick is a bass drum beater with a maple shaft and a felt head, developed together with drumming legend Peter Erskine. Its unusual design pairs a larger wood shaft with a reduced-size felt head, spreading the weight evenly from top to bottom for smoother action and more control across the full dynamic range. A great option if you want the same feel of wood in your bass drum pedal that you already know from your sticks.
The felt head gives a good balance of attack and warmth that works well across musical styles. A tapered wood shaft and a standard-size rod mean the beater fits universally into the hub of most bass drum pedals, with plenty of clearance over the cam. The 1.75" (approx. 44.5 mm) felt ball is compact enough to still leave clearance on a double bass pedal.
Background
Erskine has spoken about being drawn to the feel of wood in a stick, since the length, diameter, shoulder position and density of the wood all affect balance and weight, and wanted the same connection to the bass drum. The VKB5 was refined with drummers across every genre of music before release, with the goal of giving bass drum players the same feel and control they already know from their sticks.
