The Vic Firth RUTE505 is a plastic-bristle rod built for a softer, slightly wetter sound than wood rods, with a secure vinyl handle for a comfortable grip. A cross between Vic Firth's Rock Rake and the original Rute, it's a great choice for light jazz and combo playing where you want presence without volume.

The model uses thirty-one plastic bristles (.094") secured in a black vinyl handle. The light plastic bristles give a softer attack and a slightly wetter tone than wooden rods, while still keeping the acoustic, percussive character rods are known for.

What are rods?

Rods are a bundle of thin rounded rods joined together, available in many variations depending on how tightly they're bound, their thickness, material and bristle count – all of which shape the sound. Rods deliver lower volume than regular drumsticks but a distinctly different, more acoustic and percussive character, making them useful on a full drum kit as well as on various percussion instruments when a lower-key sound is called for. A few different rod models are considered a staple in any serious drummer's stick bag, ready for whatever the gig demands.
