Vic Firth Matt Garstka SGAR

The Vic Firth SGAR is Matt Garstka's signature stick, designed to balance power with speed. Made from hickory with a lacquered finish, it features a long taper and a blended wood tip that gives a full yet defined tone. A solid choice if you play technically varied styles and want both punch and control from the same stick.

Matt set out to design a stick that could be agile without losing its structural integrity. This stick definitely has beef, but a blended tip and long taper provide awesome finesse and speed – the long taper gives a back-heavy feel with more flex and faster response, handy when switching quickly between heavy hits and light detail work.

Tip and Sound

The blended tip has a medium surface area, giving a balanced tone – not as dark and full as a large surface area, nor as light and defined as a small one. That makes it a versatile choice across snare drum and cymbals alike.
