The Vic Firth FS5A American Concept Freestyle 5A is a 5A stick built with an unusually long overall length and an extra long taper. That combination lets you shift your fulcrum across a much wider area than on a standard 5A, giving you a broader range of feels and responses from a single pair.

The Freestyle series draws its inspiration from freestyle longboarding and the way riders shift their balance across the whole deck. Vic Firth carried that idea over into the stick: a long, gradual taper gives you more places to rest your thumb and fingers, and therefore more feels available in the same pair of sticks.

Feel

The long taper opens up a wide array of rebound and balance options. Moving your fulcrum closer to or further from the tip clearly changes the response, effectively giving you several sticks in one, with plenty of reach. It's especially noticeable if you like to experiment with grip and dynamics.

Material and Construction

The sticks are made from carefully selected American hickory, valued for its tone, durability and ability to absorb vibration. The tip is a wood Hybrid design, giving a slightly different feel and attack on cymbals and heads compared to a classic round wood tip. The surface finish is lacquer.

Who It's For

A good fit if you play 5A but want more variation in grip and rebound than a standard stick offers — for example if you like switching between light groove playing and heavier passages without changing sticks.
