The engineer behind the sound
James Farber started as an assistant at Power Station in 1978 and has since recorded well over 1,000 albums. He is regarded as one of the finest jazz engineers of all time, with records alongside Michael Brecker, John Scofield, Joshua Redman, Elvin Jones, Jack DeJohnette, Paul Motian, Bill Stewart, Brian Blade and Antonio Sanchez.
The room
The recording took place at Power Station in New York, one of the most celebrated studios ever built. It's also the studio where Farber began his career, and one he still considers the natural place to record jazz drums. Four different room ambiences are available, from the main rooms of Studio A and C to the adjoining isolation booths.
Who It's For
Jazz places special demands on a drum sound. The dynamics need to cover everything from whispering and delicate to openly explosive. If you're after that range, along with the ability to switch between sticks, brushes, rods, mallets and hands, this expansion covers the full spectrum of jazz drumming.
