Drumopolis SDX is a drum sound library for Toontrack's EZdrummer/Superior Drummer platform, produced by legendary Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T. Rex, Thin Lizzy). Eight complete drum kits were recorded at Metropolis Studios in London, covering everything from big and open to tight and raw rock sound.

Few producers have left as lasting a mark on music history as Tony Visconti. Across a career spanning nearly six decades, he has pushed sonic boundaries and helped shape the sound of rock, earning multiple Grammy wins and a Music Producers Guild Award for Outstanding Contribution.

For this library, Visconti brought his fearless approach to Metropolis Studios. Together with drummer Stephen Gilchrist (The Damned, Cardiacs, Graham Coxon) and engineer Liam Nolan (Adele, Rihanna, Drake, Stormzy), he oversaw the recording of eight kits, chosen to represent some of the most iconic stops along his remarkable career.

Two rooms, eight characters

Recording took place across two environments in Studio A: the spacious main room and the tighter, dampened iso booth. The main room captured lively, edgy kits representative of Visconti's Bowie era, while the iso booth was used for rawer sounds closer to Thin Lizzy and T. Rex. Both rooms were recorded with a wide range of ambience and extra microphones, giving you selectable tonal colors when shaping your mixes. The natural reverb of the adjacent stone room was also captured using a stereo ribbon microphone, adding an extra organic layer to work with across all kits.

The result is eight kits that together cover glam, classic, alternative, art, prog and more. From big and open to tight and raw.

Presets and MIDI

Beyond the sounds, the library includes a wide selection of presets created by Tony Visconti himself, plus a MIDI library of grooves and fills by Stephen Gilchrist. All inspired by the eras and records that made Visconti the legend he is.
