Tama Superstar Classic CL52KRS-BAB - Blue Lacquer Burst

Product Description

The Tama Superstar Classic CL52KRS-BAB is a 5-piece drum kit with 100% maple shells finished in a glossy Blue Lacquer Burst. The design takes cues from the legendary Superstar series of the 1970s, with a classic T-logo and similarly styled lugs, while the construction is fully modern. The Star-Cast mounting system lets the toms vibrate freely, delivering a full, open sound well beyond what the price tag suggests.

• Thin, resonant 100% maple shells
• Star-Cast Mounting System for free-ringing toms
• Omnisphere tom holder with double mount on the bass drum
• Low Mass Lugs in classic Tama design
• Bass drum claw hooks with protective rubber spacers

Construction

The toms and snare are built from 6-ply maple, 5 mm, while the bass drum has a slightly thicker 8-ply maple shell at 7 mm. The Star-Cast mounting system allows the rack toms to vibrate freely without the shell's resonance being choked by the mount, giving more tone and sustain. The bass drum features a double tom holder with Tama's Omnisphere L-arm, giving good adjustability and stable mounting for both rack toms at once. The lugs are Low Mass Lugs in Tama's classic, compact design, and the bass drum's claw hooks have rubber spacers that protect the hoop during tuning.

Sound and feel

Thanks to the thin maple shells and the free-floating mount, the kit has an open, resonant sound that feels bigger than you might expect from a shell pack in this class. The stock heads work fine, but they don't fully unlock the kit's sound potential. A head swap down the line will lift the tone even further without needing new drums.

Who It's For

A good choice if you want a complete, well-built foundation kit with genuine sonic merit, without paying extra for features you don't need. Works well both as a first proper drum kit and as an affordable upgrade from a true entry-level set.
