The Tama Starclassic Performer B/B in Hyper-Drive configuration is a kit shaped around the rock drummer's need for both immediate attack and serious low end. Lacquered birch and bubinga shells deliver a focused, articulate top end paired with a deep, anchored bass register that cuts cleanly through any mix. Dressed in a smoky gray lacquer with black nickel hardware, it looks every bit as professional as it sounds. Please note that the hardware, cymbals and snare drum shown in the product images are not included in this shell pack.

A hybrid shell with the best of both woods

The character of this kit lives in the meeting between two woods. Birch contributes its signature clarity and tightly focused attack, while bubinga adds a deep, full low end with a warm presence. The tom and floor tom shells measure 6 mm with four plies of birch over three plies of bubinga, while the bass drum runs slightly thicker at 8 mm with five plies of birch and three plies of bubinga. The result is a kit that projects powerfully on stage and sits beautifully in the studio.

Hyper-Drive – shallower shells, sharper response

The Hyper-Drive configuration features shallower tom depths than standard sizes, which translates to a faster attack and a more controlled sustain. The toms tune up easily and respond instantly even at high velocity, making them a favourite among rock and metal drummers who need clear articulation in fast passages. Playability is exceptional – every stroke feels immediate beneath the sticks.

Pro-grade hardware in every detail

Tama has packed this kit with details you can see and hear. The Star-Cast Mounting system suspends each tom from the hoop without dampening shell vibration, and the Quick-Lock bracket lets you return to exactly the same setup gig after gig thanks to its built-in memory lock. Die-cast hoops sharpen the focus of every drum and make tuning noticeably easier, while rubber spacers on the bass drum claw hooks protect the finish from rattles and wear. Even the floor tom legs are cushioned with air pockets to preserve the full resonance of the shells.

Evans heads, ready to play

The kit ships ready to perform. The toms come fitted with Evans G2 Clear batter heads for a balanced tone with strong attack and controlled sustain, while the bass drum wears the Evans EQ4 with its built-in damping ring – a punchy, studio-ready sound straight out of the box.
