Tama Starclassic Limited Bubinga - Figured African Cherry with Black Nickel Hardware

Product Description

The Tama Starclassic Limited Bubinga is a long-awaited reissue of one of modern drumming's most influential kits. Built with dense, heavy Bubinga shells, it delivers a deep, thunderous low end and a dark, powerful tone unlike any other wood. Finished with elegant Black Nickel hardware and a bold, high-contrast Figured African Cherry outer ply, this kit suits players who want a truly unique, heavy tone with serious visual presence.

In 2006, Tama introduced the original Starclassic Bubinga and changed the landscape of modern drum sound at a time when maple and birch dominated the market. Its deep, powerful tone quickly became a new benchmark for premium drums. The line was discontinued in 2018, but its influence lived on through artists such as Mario Duplantier and Eloy Casagrande. Now, in 2026, Starclassic Bubinga returns as a limited edition faithfully reproducing the original construction.

Construction and tone

The shells are built in 9 plies: 8 plies of Bubinga plus an outer ply of Figured African Cherry. Toms and floor toms measure 6 mm, while the bass drum is 7 mm. The dense, heavy Bubinga wood delivers a thunderous low end and enormous power. Toms and floor toms feature deeper sizes than standard to maximize the wood's natural resonance, and the bass drum ships without a tom mount, a deliberate choice to let the shell resonate freely.

Hardware

• Star-Cast Mounting for a slimmer tom suspension system, improving sound and positioning
• Quick-Lock tom/leg bracket with quick release that also functions as a memory lock
• Die-Cast hoops for focused sound and easy tuning
• Hold Tight washers with a nylon bushing that keeps tension rods from loosening on their own
• Cast claw hooks on the bass drum with protective rubber spacers
• Cushioned floor tom legs with an air pocket that preserve the floor toms' resonance

Heads

The kit ships with Evans heads: G2 Clear batter and G1 Clear resonant heads on the toms, plus an EQ4 batter head on the bass drum.

Who It's For

This kit is for players who want a heavy, dark, powerful foundational tone with distinct character, and who appreciate a drum set with history and a striking, distinctive finish.
