Tama Star Reserve Vol.9 Solid Japanese Cedar 14"x6" - Burnt Oiled Cedar

Product Description

The Tama Star Reserve Vol.9 is a snare drum with a solid Japanese cedar shell, 14x6", delivering a warm, focused tone with bright overtones. It's the ninth drum in the Star Reserve series, pairing an unusual shell material with brass hardware for a distinctive character.

The shell is made from 8mm solid Japanese cedar, a wood with its own unique acoustic properties that give the drum its warm yet focused tone. The finish uses Uzukuri, a classic, traditional Japanese woodworking technique that creates a three-dimensional surface by brushing away the softer wood fibers and leaving the harder grain raised in relief. This finish is called Burnt Oiled Cedar (BOC).

Construction and Sound

The bearing edge is Tama's own Star Bearing Edge. The hoops are Customized Brass Mighty Hoops with 8 holes, made of brass, which together with the solid cedar shell enhances the bright overtones in the drum's voice. The lugs are Tama's STAR MSL90SC.

The snare wires are Tama's Starclassic Bell Brass MS20SN14B, and the strainer is a "Liner-Drive" strainer with matching butt end (MLS50A / MLS50B) for a consistent, stable response against the head.

Who It's For

A great choice for drummers looking for a snare with real character in its tone, rather than a standard maple or birch shell. The solid cedar shell and brass hardware combine for a dynamic voice that stands out both in the studio and on stage.
