Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch 4-shellkit - Piano Black

Product Description

Starclassic Walnut/Birch is Tama's hybrid shell configuration, combining walnut and birch in the shell, delivered here as a 4-piece shell pack in Piano Black finish. The combination gives a big fundamental tone and a stable low end while keeping the tone clear and articulate, making the set easy to tune whether you prefer higher-tuned single heads or low-tuned, fat double heads.

• Walnut/birch shells for a full, stable tone
• Star-Cast Mounting for freely resonating toms
• Quick-Lock fasteners that double as memory locks
• Die-Cast Hoops for focused sound and easy tuning
• Cushioned Floor Tom Legs that preserve floor tom resonance
• Ships with EVANS heads fitted

Construction

The rack toms and floor tom have a 6 mm shell built from 4 plies of birch with 2 inner plies of black walnut. The bass drum has an 8 mm shell built from 5 plies of birch with 2 inner plies of American black walnut. As with other Starclassic models, the set features Starclassic Lugs and die-cast hoops, giving a focused sound and easy tuning.

Mounting and hardware

Star-Cast Mounting is a slimmed-down suspension system that isolates the rack toms from shell vibration and allows good positioning. The rack toms use the MTH1000 tom holder, the same type found on Tama's Star drum stands, with solid adjustment options. The Quick-Lock leg brackets are quick-release fasteners that also function as memory locks. The bass drum uses die-cast claw hooks with protective rubber spacers, and the floor tom stands on Cushioned Floor Tom Legs, rubber feet with an air pocket that keep the floor tom from losing resonance against the floor.

Heads

The set ships with EVANS heads fitted: the toms have a G2 Clear batter head, and the bass drum has an EQ4 batter head.

Who It's For

A good choice if you want a hybrid shell configuration with a clear, articulate tone and big fundamental sound, and if you value the flexibility to run either high-tuned single heads or low-tuned double heads without losing character.
