Tama Star Stave Walnut - Oiled Natural Walnut

Product Description

The Tama Star Stave Walnut is a hand-built snare drum in solid walnut, 14x6.5", with a rounded, powerful tone that never turns harsh or aggressive. The shell is built from 16 staved walnut blocks, giving a stable, focused core and a big, clear body.

Construction and tone

The shell (TVW146S-OWN) is built from 16 solid staved walnut blocks laminated into a 10 mm thick shell, with a rounded 3.5 mm bearing edge. The precision of the shell and the edge make the drum easy to tune and ensure optimal head contact. Compared to its Ash sibling, Walnut has a slightly rounder top end. Ash is a touch brighter. But both are powerful without becoming harsh. The wider snare bed adds a vintage character, and the die-cast hoops focus the sound and add punch to rimshots.

Snare mechanism

The drum features Tama's Linear-Drive snare mechanism (MSL50A/MSL50B). The same acclaimed mechanism found on models like the Starphonic series. The ratchet-type adjustment has tight increments on both sides, and the snare wires sit on a floating mount that keeps them balanced and locked in place even under heavy playing.

Tuning

The drum has 8 tension rods and Hold Tight washers with a nylon bushing that stops the tension rods from loosening on their own, keeping the drum in tune longer between adjustments.

Finish and options

The drum comes in an Oiled Natural Walnut finish, an oiled natural finish that brings out the walnut grain. Optional extras include hand-made inlays on the outside at no extra cost (Option S, TVA146S-OMH), as well as inlays on the inside of the Sound Focus Ring (Option D, TVA146D-OMH).

Who It's For

A snare for players who want a clear, powerful body with a warm, rounder tone. Combined with craftsmanship and rock-solid tuning stability.
