Savage Rudimental Workshop is a workbook that takes you through all 40 official PAS rudiments, step by step. It's built for beginners and seasoned drummers alike, with an approach designed to deliver immediate results in your playing. Two play-along CDs are included.

The book is divided into three parts that build on each other:

• Rudimental Exercises. Each of the 40 PAS rudiments is presented with a set of short exercises that teach you to master it both physically and mentally, so you can play it in a controlled way at any tempo or dynamic level.

Background and History

Rudiments have their roots in the marching band tradition, where bandleaders long tried to formalize a common list so that all drummers would play in unison. In 1812, the National Association of Rudimental Drummers in the US published the first official list of 26 rudiments, originally intended for the US Army and Navy. The Percussive Arts Society (PAS) later expanded the list to 40 "International Drum Rudiments", largely building on the original 26. Rudiments function as a standardized drumming vocabulary for drummers worldwide.

Even if you don't play in a marching band, rudiments are essential knowledge for every drummer. They can be played across the whole drum kit and form the foundation for fills and drum solos, while also being excellent snare drum exercises.
