The VAD504 gives you the presence of a full acoustic drum kit on stage, combined with the control and flexibility of electronic drums. Full-size wood shells with a Midnight Sparkle finish are mounted on double-braced chrome stands, all driven by Roland's dynamic TD-27 module. Every stroke, ghost note, roll, and swell comes through in incredible detail.

Sound and Feel

Precision multi-sensors in the snare, ride, and hi-hat pads work with the TD-27 module to capture every nuance – from finger-muting the ride to switching between head, rimshot, and cross-stick playing on the snare. The VH-14D hi-hat adds unusually fine touch sensitivity and open/closed resolution. The multi-ply, tension-adjustable mesh heads give stick rebound you can tailor to your style, and driving the beater into the specially designed 20-inch kick (KD-200-MS) moves air inside the shell for a genuinely acoustic-feeling response.

The TD-27 Module

The module offers 75 preset kits, including ten brand-new ones, plus expanded layering, parallel compression, and improved transient shaping. You can import your own WAV samples via SD card, connect to Roland Cloud for more sounds and kits, and edit directly through the streamlined interface – your edits are saved automatically.

Build and Connectivity

The cymbals – a 14-inch V-Hi-Hat, a 14-inch thin-profile crash with a textured finish, and an 18-inch ride – sit on a pivot mount that lets them swing naturally, just like acoustic cymbals. Every stand is double-braced for stability. For stage and studio work there's a stereo mix output, two assignable outputs, and a built-in 28-channel USB audio interface, plus MIDI over USB and dedicated I/O.

Who It's For

The VAD504 suits players who want the full look and acoustic shell feel of a real kit, but need to play quietly, connect to a PA or computer, and expand the kit as their setup grows. Note that the hi-hat stand, snare stand, and kick pedal are not included.
