The Roland TM-1 is a compact trigger module that makes it easy to blend your acoustic drum kit with electronic sounds. Connect a Roland trigger pad or mount an RT-series trigger on your drum or cymbal, and play your own samples in perfect sync with the acoustic hit, with zero latency.

Your own sounds in minutes

With the free editor app for Mac/Windows and iOS/Android (Android available from March 2019), you simply connect the TM-1 to your device, open the app, and import your own samples straight from your library. The app also gives you access to over 150 additional sounds beyond the 15 built-in kits. USB is used for communication with the editor and for trigger-to-MIDI conversion.

Built for the road

A metal housing and rugged footswitches make the TM-1 tough enough to tour with, while still being light enough to toss in a bag or case. Battery power removes the hassle of finding an outlet when setting up quickly for an outdoor gig, though it can also run on a power adapter (sold separately). A single foot tap lets you switch off the hybrid sounds entirely to play fully acoustic during a verse, then bring back the extra hybrid power for the chorus.

Connections

The TM-1 has two 1-zone inputs, so it can connect to two single-trigger units, or to one dual-trigger unit via a splitter cable. It's compatible with Roland's RT-series acoustic drum triggers and many Roland trigger pads.

TM-1 vs. TM-2

The TM-1 and Roland TM-2 share a lot in common but differ in a few key ways. The TM-1 comes with its own editor app for smartphone and computer, with access to a large sound library, while the TM-2 stores sounds on an SD card and is edited in any audio software without a bundled app. The TM-2 has two 2-zone inputs versus the TM-1's two 1-zone inputs. The TM-1 has dedicated buttons for sensitivity, pitch, decay, and level right on the panel, while these sit in a menu system on the TM-2. The TM-1 is also built like an effects pedal for the floor and controlled with your foot, which the TM-2 isn't designed for unless you add a separate trigger pedal.
