Roland TD316 - Compact V-Drums with Pro-Level Feel

Product Description

The TD316 is the mid-level kit in Roland's V-Drums 3 Series, with upgraded pads, two crash cymbals and a stand-mounted VH-10 hi-hat in a compact format. Its V31 module runs the same sound engine as the V71 and V51 in Roland's premium kits. Hi-hat stand, kick pedal, snare stand and drum throne are not included.

You get three toms, snare, hi-hat, two crashes and ride on the MDS-Compact 2 stand, which gives you a sturdy setup with room to add or upgrade pads later.

Sound and Module

The V31 is built on a multi-sampled sound library created in collaboration with Drum Workshop (DW). A large color display and EZ Edit controls make fast work of changing tuning, muffling and instrument types. You can also import your own samples.

With the built-in wireless adapter you can download more V-Drums Instrument Expansions and Kit Packs from Roland Cloud using the Roland Cloud Connect app, including multi-layer expansions based on DW kits. A six-month Roland Cloud Ultimate membership is included, which gives you access to the DW Soundworks software instrument.

Pads and Cymbals

The PD-12P snare pad has triple piezo sensors and positional sensing. The redesigned PD-8H and PD-10H tom pads use offset sensors for natural dynamics and reduced hot spots. Two dual-zone CY-12C-T crashes give you an expanded layout and more expressive fills, and the CY-14R-T ride offers natural response, bow/edge/bell triggering and choke support.

The VH-10 hi-hat mounts on a traditional hi-hat stand for natural open/closed control. The durable KD-10 kick pad gives a genuine acoustic feel with low in-room noise.

Practice and Coaching

The built-in coach mode includes Phrase Trainer, Stroke Monitor and other advanced tools. You also get Drum Pass, an exclusive Roland bundle of 100 free Melodics lessons for V-Drums players. Stream music and backing tracks from your phone over Bluetooth, record and play back songs via SD card, and connect a music player or a Roland percussion pad to the analog mix input.

Connectivity and Expansion

USB-C carries multichannel audio and MIDI, so you can record each drum on its own track in your DAW and play software instruments. The V31 Editor software (macOS/Windows) and V-Drums Play app (iOS/Android) put the module's key functions at your fingertips. A dedicated input takes an advanced Roland digital snare, ride or hi-hat pad. Of the two extra trigger inputs, CRASH 2 is used by the second crash, leaving AUX/TOM 4 free for a fourth tom.

What is not included?

The kick pedal, snare stand, hi-hat stand and drum throne are not included and are sold separately. The VH-10 hi-hat needs a traditional hi-hat stand.

How does the TD316 differ from the TD313?

The TD316 has the PD-12P snare pad instead of the PDX-12, a stand-mounted VH-10 hi-hat instead of the CY-5 with FD-9 pedal, two crash cymbals instead of one and the MDS-Compact 2 stand. The V31 module, tom pads, ride and kick pad are the same.
