The Remo Ocean Drum is a frame drum built to recreate the sound of waves rolling and breaking. As you tilt or rock it, small steel beads inside sweep across the head, creating a wash of ocean-like sound. It's an inspiring instrument for production, education or relaxation.

Construction and Design

Built with an Acousticon shell and a clear Mylar resonant head, the drum houses numerous small steel beads that tumble across the head as the instrument is tilted or rocked, producing a wave-like sound. Its double-sided, frame drum style allows horizontal positioning or a smooth rocking motion, opening up ambient and theatrical possibilities.

The drum is available in three diameters: 12", 16" and 22" – choose based on space, volume and visual impact. Finish options are Standard (plain) or Fish Graphic (decorative), for extra visual flair.

Playing Tips

Hold the drum roughly horizontally and tilt it gently from side to side so the beads roll across the head. A slow, steady motion gives a soft, continuous wash. For a more dramatic crashing-wave effect, accelerate the tilt or give the drum a slight jerk so the beads cascade.

You can also strike the frame or head with a mallet while rocking the drum, combining rhythm with the wave-like ambience. Mallet not included.
