The Philharmonic PHX African Mahogany is a concert snare drum from Pearl, built around a mahogany shell and an all-new strainer system, the SR505 Triad Silent Strainer. Shell and Tone

The shell is built from four plies of African Mahogany, reinforced with four plies of maple reinforcement rings. The combination delivers a warm fundamental with the projection needed in an orchestral setting. The vintage-inspired snare bed is cut to give the snare wires a sensitive, clear response at low to medium dynamics, which matters a great deal in concert snare playing where dynamics are often subtle.

Strainer System

The new SR505 Triad Silent Strainer is designed to engage and disengage the snare wires silently, an important feature on stage and in recording situations where mechanical clicks are disruptive. The snares themselves are graduated tension wrap-around cable snares, giving a more even buzz response across the head than snares with uniform tension.

Hardware

The drum uses Pearl's classic TB tube lugs and stainless steel tension rods, a combination that holds tuning stable over time and stands up to the demanding use a concert snare sees.
