Period-Correct Sound

Every detail at Flux Studios was chosen to honor the way punk was made back in the day. That goes for the mics and outboard as much as for the drumheads and dampening. Several of the kits once belonged to iconic and influential players who helped shape the scene, so what you hear are the actual drums that were played, worn and torn along the way.

Each kit captures the character of its own chapter in punk’s evolution. The line-up runs from the raw, unpolished sounds of the 1970s through indie, art rock and post-punk, all the way to the sheer aggression of 1990s hardcore.

The People Behind It

Frank Ferrer is a New York City native who grew up with the scene practically outside his front door. After countless rock and punk bands and projects, he spent almost two decades with Guns N’Roses. On the other side of the studio glass sits Nitebob, who for more than five decades has been part of New York’s rock and punk underground, capturing it on tape and bringing it to life through PAs. He is an engineer who insists on period-correct gear.
