Modern Pop Piano EKX

Product Description

Modern Pop Piano EKX is a sound expansion for EZkeys 2, built on a carefully sampled vintage upright piano from the 1950s. Layers of synths, granular and time-stretching effects, and processing through analog and digital outboard gear give you a palette ranging from natural piano tone to fully experimental textures.

The foundation: a classic Grotrian-Steinweg piano

The principal instrument is a classic Grotrian-Steinweg piano dating back to the mid-1950s. It was recorded using an array of microphones in the famed Riksmixingsverket studio in Stockholm by engineer Linn Fijal, presenting a stunning natural timbre right out of the box.

Layers of sound design and processing

Beyond the bare piano, this expansion offers a palette of multi-layered, complexly textured tones where the piano acts as the common ground. The original recordings were duplicated and resampled through various analog and digital outboard processors, such as compressors, EQs, saturators and tape emulators. In addition, analog synths were recorded separately and blended into the product's 80 individually crafted presets.

80 presets across three categories

The presets are organized into three distinct groups. Natural offers mostly acoustic-sounding renditions using different microphone and ambience blends with sparse effects. Processed features sounds of a more layered nature, often with non-natural reverbs and heavier saturation. Experimental has out-of-this-world textures that blend the piano with tweaked, warped synths and extensively pushed effects. Together, this spans the entire range from natural and organic to wildly distorted, ambient and unconventional.

MIDI library included

In addition to the sounds and presets, a basic collection of MIDI unique to the product is included.

Who It's For

Whether you're working on ambient sound design, an EDM track, or virtually any facet of popular music from subtle singer-songwriter to experimental electronic-meets-acoustic, this expansion has the sounds you need.
