The Mike Portnoy 420X is a slightly longer 5A stick in hickory with ActiveGrip technology that grips better the more you sweat. The oval wood tip delivers a full drum sound and clear cymbal sound, while a larger striking surface goes easy on your heads.

The extra length compared to a standard 5A gives more power and projection without adding noticeable weight in the hand. ActiveGrip sits as a thin layer over the black-lacquered stick, so balance and weight are barely affected – and the lacquer is protected to help minimize blackening of heads and cymbals.

Grip and Feel

ActiveGrip is heat-activated: the more you sweat during a set, the better the stick holds in your hand. Useful if you tend to lose grip during intense playing on stage or in the rehearsal room.
