Product Description
The Meinl Sonic Energy Solid Kalimba is a thumb piano made from solid maple, tuned to eight tones in the key of C major. Every tone is chosen so they complement each other harmonically, making it easy to play freely and improvise straight away, even without any musical background.
The kalimba, also known as Mbira or Sansa, is a traditional instrument originating in Africa. It consists of a wooden block or resonating box with tuned metal tines mounted on top, played with the thumbs. The Sonic Energy model has its own distinct character, both in sound and in its design, compared to more traditional builds.
Tuning and Tones
The eight tones are tuned to the C major scale, arranged as a', e', c', g, a, d', g', c". This harmonic tone sequence means you can play across all the tines without ever hitting a tone that sounds wrong, which is great for beginners who want to get going quickly, but also enjoyable for more experienced players looking for a relaxed, meditative instrument.
