Meinl Percussion Sonic Energy Sound Hole Kalimba, 17 toner - Mahogany Matte

Product Description

The Meinl Sonic Energy Sound Hole Kalimba is a 17-tone kalimba in matte mahogany, tuned to C major so every note blends together. A soundport adds extra body to the tone, and with just your thumbs you can start playing right away, no notation or prior experience needed.

The kalimba, also known as thumb piano, mbira or sansa, is a traditional instrument originating in Africa. It consists of a wooden block with a resonating body and tuned metal tines that are played by plucking them with the thumbs.

Sound and tuning

All 17 tones are tuned to the C major scale in a harmonic sequence: d'', b', g', e', c', a, f, d, c, e, g, b, d', f', a', c'', e''. Because the scale is built so the notes complement each other, it's impossible to play a tone that sounds wrong, making it just as suitable for beginners as for experienced musicians. The soundport on top adds extra fullness and projection to the tone.

Material and finish

The body is crafted from mahogany with a matte finish (Mahogany Matte), giving it a warm look and a pleasant feel in the hands.

What's included

The kalimba comes with a case, cotton bag, microfiber cloth and tuning hammer, so you have everything you need for storage, transport and fine-tuning right out of the box.
