Sound and Feel

The kalimba, or thumb piano, is a traditional instrument originating in Africa, also known as mbira or sansa. It consists of a wooden body with tuned metal tines mounted on top, played with the thumbs. Meinl's Sound Hole model features a sound port, a resonance hole in the body, which adds fullness and resonance to the tone. The tones in the C major scale are chosen to complement each other harmonically, no matter the order they're played in.

Tones

The kalimba has 17 tones: d'', b', g', e', c', a, f, d, c, e, g, b, d', f', a', c'', e''.

Who It's For

A good choice if you want a meditative, easy-to-pick-up instrument for home, the rehearsal space or around a campfire, without having to source extra accessories separately, since the case, pouch, cleaning cloth and tuning hammer are all included.
