Mapex Saturn SR628XUUQ - Aqua Fade

Product Description

The Mapex Saturn SR628XUUQ is a maple/walnut shell pack in the Aqua Fade finish, with toms in a slightly shallower depth than the traditional standard. That gives a snappier tom sound with a sharp attack and lightning-fast response. Thanks to Mapex's SoniClear bearing edge, the kit tunes up easily, stays controlled and holds its tuning considerably longer.

• Maple/walnut shells give clarity, low end and a remarkably full tone
• SoniClear bearing edge allows lower tuning, longer sustain and more punch
• Built-in lug lock function keeps tension rods from shaking loose during play
• Pressed Triple-Flange Power Hoops for a dynamic, natural sound
• SoniClear tom suspension gives discreet mounting and maximum resonance
• Isolated floor tom legs minimize unwanted dampening of the shell

Shells and SoniClear bearing edge

The shells are lacquered and built in Mapex's classic maple/walnut blend, a combination Mapex has refined over years of experimenting with different ply combinations. It delivers a massive low end, warm and rich tone, big and beautiful sound, plus a distinct, clear attack.
SoniClear is Mapex's own bearing edge. The cut on the shell where it meets the head. A traditional, sharp bearing edge places the contact point at the outer edge of the shell, which can make the head sit slightly uneven and makes tuning trickier. Mapex instead uses a rounded cut that moves the contact point further toward the center of the shell and flattens it slightly, giving more contact between head and shell. The result is a drum that's noticeably easier to tune, can be tuned considerably lower for a fat, punchy sound, removes the most disturbing high overtones, and delivers longer sustain along with a lot more low end and punch. At both low and high tunings. The internal edge angle varies with drum size: 45° on the smaller drums and 60° on the larger ones.
The lugs are B-lugs with a built-in lug lock function, keeping the tension rods from shaking loose during play so the kit holds its tuning considerably longer.

Hanging and floor toms

The hanging toms sit in the SoniClear tom suspension. Sleek, discreet, and designed for maximum resonance through minimal contact with the shell. The floor toms rest on SAS Static legs with two 90° bends, instead of the more traditional angled design, combined with the Sonic Pedestal Foot. This minimizes contact with the floor and gives the floor toms a genuinely open, rich tone. Isolation gaskets give minimal contact between the leg brackets and the shell to dampen the drum as little as possible. Mapex's specially designed Air Flow Venting lets air pass out of the drum with minimal resistance.

Configuration SR628XUUQ
