Construction and SONIClear

Standard bearing edges are often sharply angled right at the outer edge of the shell, which can leave the head slightly uneven and harder to tune evenly around the drum. With SONIClear, Mapex moves the contact point further toward the center of the shell and flattens the edge slightly, giving better contact between head and shell. This makes the drum considerably easier to tune, allows tuning lower while retaining a full tone, and reduces the harshest high overtones so the drum sounds better controlled at both low and high tunings, with longer resonance and more low end and punch. The bevel on the inside of the shell varies by drum size: 45 degrees on the smaller drums and 60 degrees on the larger ones.

The floor toms use SAS Static legs with two 90-degree bends and Sonic Pedestal Foot rubber feet, minimizing floor contact for a resonant tone. Isolation Gaskets between the shell and the mounts reduce dampening to a minimum, and specially designed Air Flow Venting lets air pass through the shell with minimal resistance.
