Mapex MPX Maple/Poplar 14"x5,5" - Gloss Natural

Product Description

The Mapex MPX is a remarkably affordable snare drum series, and this model features a maple/poplar shell with a Gloss Natural finish. With Mapex's acclaimed SONIClear Bearing Edge and a Piston Strainer borrowed from the Armory series, you get pro-level feel at a great price.

• 7.2 mm maple/poplar shell for a warm, soft tone with vintage character
• SONIClear Bearing Edge for easier tuning and more low end
• Piston Strainer snare mechanism that runs smooth and quiet
• Triple-flanged 1.3 mm hoops in chrome
• Remo UX Coated Ambassador batter head

Tone and Feel

The maple/poplar blend gives a warm, soft tone with strong dynamic range and a classic, vintage-flavored sound. The SONIClear Bearing Edge makes the drum easier to tune correctly since the head sits more evenly against the shell, and it lets you tune lower without losing control. The result is longer sustain, more low end and serious punch, while the harshest overtones are reduced.

Construction

The lugs are designed with minimal contact against the shell to dampen as little as possible, styled after Mapex's higher-end series so the drum blends in with any Mapex kit. The Piston Strainer mechanism is borrowed from the Armory series and feels unusually smooth and quiet in use. The hoops are triple-flanged 1.3 mm with chrome hardware.

Who It's For

A genuinely solid snare for players who want pro-level feel without the pro-level price tag. Just as good as a first snare as it is a complement to an existing kit.
