Mapex Black Panther Machine BPDLMW4550LNW 14"x5.5" - Satin Natural Walnut
Product Description
The Mapex Black Panther Machine (BPDLMW4550LNW) is a 14"x5.5" maple and walnut snare drum, built entirely to drummer Craig Blundell's own requirements and specifications. The combination of shell, SONIClear bearing edges and Sonic Saver Hoops delivers a dark, massive tone with a distinct snare response and long sustain. A drum for players who want a unique character rather than a standard snare.
- Dark, massive fundamental with fat low end and punch
- SONIClear bearing edges make the drum easy to tune and stable
- Sonic Saver Hoops give a comfortable rimshot and protect your sticks
- Locking lugs with neoprene inserts keep the drum in tune longer
- Signature model developed together with Craig Blundell
SONIClear. Mapex's unique bearing edge
SONIClear is Mapex's name for the bearing edge on the Black Panther Machine. On this drum the edge is cut at 45° and 30° depending on location on the shell. Instead of the traditional sharp edge at the outer rim, Mapex uses a rounded edge that moves the contact point between head and shell further towards the centre, and flattens it slightly for more contact area. The result is a drum that tunes far more easily, can be tuned down with full control, suppresses the harshest overtones, and offers longer sustain with more low end and punch.
Locking lugs and Sonic Saver Hoops
The lugs are locking lugs (listed as Locking I-Lugs in the specification and referred to as Locking B-Lugs in the product description) with a neoprene insert in the housing that stops the tension rods from vibrating loose during play. No more panic-tuning between songs on stage. The hoops are Mapex Sonic Saver Hoops, a tuning hoop with an inward-curved top edge instead of the usual outward curve. This gives a comfortable rimshot plus extra punch and projection, makes the hoop slightly stiffer than a standard triple-flanged hoop but softer than a die-cast one, and extends the life of your drumsticks while helping the drum hold its tuning longer.
Who It's For
The Black Panther Machine suits players building an arsenal of characterful snares who want a dark, controlled and fat tone with long sustain. A solid choice for both rehearsal and stage thanks to its excellent tuning stability.
