Product Description

The Ludwig Neusonic Fast Mod in Merlot Sparkle is a 4-piece shellpack built at Ludwig's own factory in Monroe, North Carolina. The maple/cherry shells give the kit a wide tuning range and strong resonance, making it an affordable yet genuinely professional USA-made package.

Shell Construction

The source material describes the shell construction two ways, and both are given here exactly as documented: a 7-ply crossover shell made up of a 4-ply maple exterior and 3-ply cherry interior, measuring 5.5 mm thick, and a 6-ply crossover shell made up of a 3-ply maple exterior and 3-ply cherry interior, measuring 5 mm thick. The shells feature a single 45-degree bearing edge with a 1/16" back cut, offering wide-range tuning ability and strong sustain.

Shells are formed using Ludwig's RFST (Radio Frequency Technology) process, based on the company's original bladder molds from the 1960s. A specialized adhesive cures evenly across the entire shell surface, adding stability throughout the drum and forming a core part of what Ludwig calls its own sound.

Heads

The kit ships standard with Evans USA heads: G1 Coated batter and G1 Clear reso on the toms, and EQ4 batter and EQ3 reso on the bass drum. The Neusonic series' standard snare heads are G1 Coated batter and Hazy 300 reso, but this 4-piece shellpack does not include a snare drum.
