The Ludwig Neusonic Downbeat in Merlot Sparkle is a complete, USA-made drum set from Ludwig's award-winning Neusonic series. It offers a wide tuning range and an articulate, warm tone thanks to maple and cherry shells, combining professional-level sound with lightweight portability for the working drummer.

The shells are formed at Ludwig's factory in Monroe, North Carolina, USA. Most of the shells in this outfit are 7-ply crossover designs with a 4-ply maple exterior and a 3-ply cherry interior, measuring 5.5 mm thick, producing full-range tuning and optimum sustain. Some shells in the set are 6-ply crossover designs with a 3-ply maple exterior and a 3-ply cherry interior, measuring 5 mm thick, optimized for resonance and sustain.

The shells feature a single 45-degree bearing edge with a 1/16" back cut, offering wide-range tuning abilities and optimal sustain. All Ludwig USA shells are produced using RFST molding (Radio Frequency Technology), a process using Ludwig's original bladder molds from the 1960s. RFST's unique bonding system, combined with a specialized adhesive, cures each shell evenly over its entire surface. According to Ludwig, a principal ingredient of the "Ludwig Sound".

The outfit comes standard with Evans USA heads: G1 Coated batter heads on the toms, G1 Clear resonant heads on the toms, EQ4 batter head and EQ3 resonant head on the bass drum. The snare drum features a G1 Coated batter head and a Hazy 300 resonant head.

This outfit is finished in Merlot Sparkle, one of seven finishes available in the Neusonic series.
