Ludwig Legacy Mahogany Custom 22x14", 12x8", 16x16" - White Marine Pearl

Product Description

The Ludwig Legacy Mahogany Custom is the return of the shell that was the core of Ludwig drums for over 50 years. A handcrafted mahogany and poplar shell pack with rich sonic warmth. This kit comes in sizes 22x14, 12x8 and 16x16" in the White Marine Pearl finish, shell pack without snare.

Shell

The shells are a 3-ply construction: 1/16" mahogany outer ply, 1/8" poplar core ply, and 1/16" mahogany inner ply, topped with solid 1/4" thick maple reinforcement rings. The key to Legacy's classic tone begins with a cross-laminated American poplar center ply that lends focus to the warm, rich, low-end "woody" tones of the inner/outer mahogany plies. This unique shell combination is further stabilized by a specially rounded bearing edge with the maple reinforcement rings.

Bearing Edge

The bearing edge is a 30 degree inner cut with a 1/4" radius round over, producing a pure, well-rounded sonic footprint. Warm dark tones with bold bottom end combined with soft mids and highs.

Historic Fact

Ludwig and Ludwig's 3-ply shell formula was unveiled in 1923, at the time touted as being built "in accordance with the recognized correct principles used in the manufacture of airplanes." This classic construction went on to define the sound of generations of drummers, and Legacy Mahogany is Ludwig's own return to that formula.
