The Ludwig Classic Maple Downbeat is a shell pack in the classic Downbeat configuration, finished in Vintage White Marine. The series has been a professional choice for over 20 years, prized for full tonality, rich sustain, and exceptional versatility across any performance setting.

The shells are hand-crafted at Ludwig USA in Monroe, NC, using a process refined through over a century of drum making. Classic Maple's standard shell is 7-ply, 6mm, formulated for optimum resonance and tonality. Its center three-ply core panel is laminated in a horizontal/vertical/horizontal grain bond to a 2.4mm thickness and inserted between inner and outer two-ply panels through Ludwig's proprietary RFST (Radio Frequency Shell Technology) molding process. The method uses Ludwig's historic bladder molds dating back to the late 1960s, whose unique bonding system, combined with a specialized, time-tested adhesive, cures each shell evenly over its entire surface. A principal ingredient in the signature Ludwig Sound.

Each drum's bearing edge is cut to a 45-degree angle within 1/16" from the outside edge, then hand-sanded to a smooth, even, flat surface for easy head seating. This profile is critical for a wide tuning range and maximum sustain. The sound is described as bright in attack with maximum sustain, giving exceptional adaptability. Ludwig calls Classic Maple one of the best all-purpose drum sets for today's professional settings.
