Ludwig Breakbeats - Silver Sparkle

Product Description

Ludwig Breakbeats in Silver Sparkle is a compact club kit designed by Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson (The Roots) for drummers gigging in tight spaces. The shells are 7-ply hardwood fitted with Remo Pinstripe heads, giving the kit a full sound despite its small size. It comes complete with multi-purpose storage bags that double as mutes.

In Questlove's own words: "I wanted to build a device that was apartment-friendly and compact for the street musician; but also something that was quality-sounding. A gritty, raw, 'break-able' kit for gigging in clubs that you can fit in a cab. Breakbeats by Questlove does it all."

Built for the city

The bass drum is 14x16" (the specification also lists 16"x14"), the tom is 7x10" (the specification also lists 10"x7"), and the floor tom is 13x13". Positioned on a riser for optimum reach, the compact setup makes it easy to sculpt grooves in tight spaces.

The tonal center

The tonal center of the kit is a matching 5x14" wood snare drum (the specification also lists 14x5"), fitted with 8-Twin Breakbeats lugs. It lets you make your voice heard whether you're at a gig, on the street, or in rehearsal.

Construction and tone

The 7-ply hardwood shells are preferred by professionals for their tonal versatility and, according to the manufacturer, play like a full-sized kit, fusing low-end kick punch with focused tom and snare midrange. Each drum's bearing edge is cut to a 45-degree angle within 1/16" from the outside edge and hand-sanded to a smooth, even, flat surface for easy head seating, the final touch of the unmistakable Ludwig sound.

Packable and portable

Breakbeats is packable, stackable, and portable. The included storage bags make it easy to transport, and you can drape a bag over each drum to instantly lower volume or change tone without extra accessories.
