Latin percussion Cuica Head LP3408 for LP Brass Cuica - Goatskin
Product Description
Original replacement head LP3408 for the LP Brass Cuica, 8" in diameter. The head is made of untanned goatskin, mounted in an aluminium hoop, with the bamboo stick already worked in so you can start playing right away without any preparation.
The cuica is a Brazilian friction drum that produces its distinctive squeaking, groaning sound when the bamboo stick is rubbed against the underside of the head while a finger presses on the head's surface to change the pitch. Over time the head wears down and loses its friction and tone, and the LP3408 is the correct replacement part to restore the instrument's original sound. Because the bamboo stick is pre-worked into the head before delivery, you don't need to break it in yourself, which can otherwise take a while before the stick grips the head properly.
Latin Percussion was founded in 1964 by Martin Cohen and has since built percussion instruments used by professional musicians worldwide, from congas and bongos to cuicas like this one. That long-standing experience with Latin percussion shows in the quality of materials and construction, even in a seemingly simple component like a replacement head.
