Joe Morello Drum Method is a two-part instructional DVD in which one of jazz's most important drummers teaches his technique directly to camera. With on-screen music and tablature, close-up shots and helpful split-screen effects, it's easy to follow both right- and left-hand technique.
In Part 1, Joe Morello demonstrates roll techniques, matched grip and traditional stick positions, sounds on the drumhead, cross sticking and tuning, and much more. All using natural body movement. The DVD also includes great vintage footage of Joe in action with the Dave Brubeck Quintet.
Part 2: Bass Drum, Hi-Hat and Comping
The second part of the series explores single vs. double bass drum techniques, special bass drum exercises, heel-toe techniques, and hi-hat 'ride style' and 'fanning'. Joe also shows how to make the hi-hat and cymbals 'breathe' and blend, how to swing and keep time, and covers dynamics, punctuating and accents, thinking musically, and soloing. All delivered with Joe Morello's legendary wit and wisdom.
