Groove Legacy MIDI is a drum MIDI pack from Toontrack in which session drummer Darby Todd works through four decades of defining pop and rock grooves. The pack gives you ready-made grooves and fills across four distinct stylistic eras, ready to drag into your DAW and trigger against any virtual drum library.

Four decades, four voices

Darby Todd moves through four clearly distinct musical eras. Starting in the '60s, he explores slightly loose, song-driven backbeats. He then moves into the pocket-heavy shuffles and funk-infused rhythms of the '70s, two eras with distinctly different voices. From the '80s come big, over-the-top, anthem-like grooves, before he lands in the raw, grunge-inspired feel of the '90s.

Built to mix and match

Rather than zeroing in on full song structures, the pack dives deep into grooves and fills. Each "song" shares a common feel across its grooves and fills, making them easy to mix and match freely within the same arrangement. The result is a practical toolkit for writing, producing and arranging songs across styles, while also serving as a tribute to the role of groove in pop and rock through the decades.
