The Gretsch Brooklyn Standard was developed in close cooperation with Mike Johnston, combining classic Brooklyn character with modern versatility. It offers a perfect blend of warmth, attack and responsiveness, designed to perform equally well in practice rooms, studios and on stage.

Every detail of this snare reflects Mike Johnston’s personal input, from the snare wire configuration to the integrated muffling system. His goal was to create a snare that supports dynamic practice, detailed articulation and expressive performance at any skill level.

Shell construction and tone

The 6-ply maple/poplar shell provides a warm, focused tone with a clear, musical attack. Double 45° bearing edges enhance articulation and sensitivity, while the Gretsch Silver Sealer interior adds that iconic Gretsch character. The 302 steel hoops and tube lugs ensure tuning stability and an open, resonant sustain.

Responsive and versatile snare sound

The 42-strand snare wire produces a crisp, articulate snap ideal for everything from delicate ghost notes to powerful backbeats. The integrated batter-side internal muffler allows quick tonal adjustments without external dampening tools. Lightning throw-off offers smooth, reliable snare activation in both studio and live environments.

The Satin Black Metallic finish paired with chrome hardware creates a sleek, modern look suitable for any setup. Equipped with Remo USA heads, the snare is ready to play straight out of the box.
