Modern Retro EZX

Product Description

Modern Retro EZX is a sound library for EZdrummer 3 and Superior Drummer 3 featuring three unique kits recorded at Svenska Grammofonstudion in Gothenburg. The sound is earthy, organic and resonant, with calf- and cowskin heads giving it a period-correct, warm vintage character, while still staying tight enough for modern pop, soul, R&B and pocket-style beats.

The kits were recorded by engineer/producer Christoffer Berg (Depeche Mode, The Killers, Robyn) together with drummer Christopher Cantillo (Carly Rae Jepsen, Mayer Hawthorne, Dina Ögon). Recording took place in the studio's main live room, which boasts a 10-meter ceiling height, giving the sound air and natural ambience without losing a tight, contained character.

Recording technique

Each kit was captured using close mics along with two different mid/side configurations: one using all-ribbon microphones and one using only tube microphones. Two of the three kits were recorded in wires-off or toweled configurations for an extra muted, period-correct character. Calf- and cowskin heads were used to enhance the thick, lush and warm, yet ringy, old-school tone that sets the kits apart from modern-day alternatives.

Presets and MIDI

A wealth of mix-ready presets is included, ranging from raw, naturally organic mixes to contrasting sounds built with chains of saturation, distortion and compression. A basic library of MIDI grooves and fills, unique to the product, is also included, giving you a ready-made starting point for your own productions.

Who It's For

A good choice if you write songs that blend retro character with modern production, such as acoustic pop, soul, R&B and tight pocket-style beats, and want a drum sound source with genuine studio character rather than a completely neutral, modern default tone.
