Product Description

The DW Control Beater (DWSM110) was developed alongside DW's MDD Direct Drive pedals, but is now sold separately so you can use the technology with any pedal. Interchangeable striking surfaces and removable weights let you dial in exactly how the beater feels and sounds against the head.

Three Striking Surfaces

The Control Beater comes with three interchangeable surfaces, each giving a different attack character:

• Hard, flat felt – for maximum contact
• Spherical felt – rounded shape for reduced contact
• Flat plastic – for a sharper, more defined attack

Weight and Balance

The removable weights are made of brass and give you five levels of striking mass to choose from, depending on how much punch and attack you want in your sound. Without any weights fitted, the beater weighs 64g. With all the weights installed, it weighs 94g – a 63% increase. The self-adjusting beater head also ensures the striking angle stays correct no matter how you set up your pedal.

Who It's For

A good fit if you already have a sense of how you want your bass drum to sound and want a tool to get there, rather than swapping the whole pedal. Works well both in the studio, where you might want to tweak the sound between songs, and at rehearsal, where you're experimenting with different tones.
