Drum & Bass EZX
Toontrack EZX sound expansion with four acoustic kits and electronic sounds for drum & bass.
Product Description
Drum & Bass EZX is a sound expansion for EZdrummer 3 and Superior Drummer 3 that fuses organic drums with electronic energy. Four acoustic kits are combined with drum machine sounds, percussion and effects, tailored for modern drum & bass production.
The expansion brings together two deeply rooted names from the genre and the wider UK dance scene: drummer Andy Gangadeen and producer, mixer, engineer and DJ Peter "Erb N Dub" Chapman. Gangadeen has performed alongside icons like James Brown, Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan, and worked with acts such as Massive Attack, Rudimental, Chase & Status and Fatboy Slim. Their combined experience spans decades of music shaped by rhythm, movement and hard-hitting drums.
Recording and character
The sounds were captured at the Rimshot Studio in Kent, UK, using both the studio's modern SSL console and its vintage Decca valve console. Many microphones were driven through the Decca preamps to recreate the warm saturation and natural compression associated with classic sampled breaks. Extra horn and vocal mic spill was intentionally incorporated throughout the sessions to further echo the feel of the original recordings. The kits are inspired by iconic breakbeats like the legendary "Amen Break" and James Brown's "Funky Drummer," aiming to capture both the laser-sharp precision of modern drum & bass and the raw movement, bleed and character of the recordings that helped shape it.
Grooves and presets
Alongside the sounds, a collection of MIDI grooves curated by Gangadeen and Chapman is included, designed to match the vibe of the kits and make full use of the extras, including the high-pitched side snare, effects and electronic percussion. A wide range of mix-ready presets by Peter Chapman is also included, covering both modern and classic drum & bass.
Who It's For
A great choice if you produce drum & bass or related electronic music and want a drum sound that feels performed rather than fully programmed, blending organic kits with electronic sounds.
