Dragonfly Percussion LowTops
Product Description
LowTops is a mallet topper that fits securely onto the tip of any medium drum set stick, turning it into a mallet right at your kit. Built using tightly stacked layers of cloth in the tradition of Austrian timpani mallet construction, it sounds and feels far superior to a felt-covered timpani stick.
The design comes from a long-distance collaboration between rock drummer and craftsman Scott McPherson (Tackle Instrument Supply Co.), whose credits include Elliott Smith, Beck and Bright Eyes, and orchestral percussionist and mallet-maker Dinesh Joseph (Dragonfly Percussion), of the Buffalo Philharmonic. Two very different worlds of drumming came together to create a genuinely new kind of drum set accessory.
Construction and Materials
LowTops is built from three distinct material layers: hard leather, medium canvas and soft flannel. Together they open up a brand new palette of timbres across drums and cymbals, and the layered construction makes the topper far more durable than a standard felt-covered timpani stick.
The topper attaches securely onto the tip of most medium drumsticks, letting you switch instantly between regular stick playing and mallet tones mid-set.
