Product Description
This djembe is hand-carved from a single piece of environmentally-friendly, plantation-grown mahogany and features a carved tribal mask design in the shell. The bowl interior is lathe turned for uniform thickness and finished with rough-surfaced carvings that eliminate overtones for a more focused tone.
The shell is lathe turned to maintain a uniform thickness all the way round, giving the drum a stable foundation for its sound. The bowl interior features lathe grooves and rough-surfaced carvings. This is done deliberately, to eliminate overtones so the drum produces a clearer, more focused attack instead of a scattered, ringing sound. The exterior is decorated with a hand-carved African tribal mask design.
This is a traditional djembe: rope-tuned, with a natural skin head.
