Product Description
The Toca TODJ-12CK is a traditional djembe measuring 12" in diameter and 24" (61 cm) tall, carved from a single piece of environmentally-friendly plantation-grown mahogany. The shell is lathe turned for uniform thickness, and the bowl interior features lathe grooves along with rough-surfaced carvings designed to eliminate unwanted overtones.
Turning the shell on a lathe keeps the wall thickness even all the way around, giving the drum a stable, consistent base for its tone. Inside the bowl, visible lathe grooves combine with a deliberately rough-carved surface, a construction aimed at breaking up overtones for a more focused, controlled sound rather than an overly resonant one. Using plantation-grown mahogany makes the material choice more sustainable than wood taken from unmanaged forest.
Per the source material, this drum features a carved African Mask design, giving each drum a distinct visual character alongside its sound.
