Product Description
The Toca Origins Series African Mask is a traditionally built djembe, hand-carved from a single piece of plantation-grown mahogany. With a natural skin head and rope tuning, it delivers genuine acoustic djembe tone and suits players who want an instrument with real character rather than a mass-produced feel.
The shell is lathe turned for uniform thickness throughout the body, giving a balanced and consistent tone. The bowl interior features lathe grooves and rough-surfaced carvings, deliberately worked to eliminate unwanted overtones. The result is a cleaner fundamental tone without sounding dead.
Material and Construction
The drum is carved from a single piece of environmentally-friendly, plantation-grown mahogany. The head is natural skin, and the drum uses traditional rope tuning, just like classic West African djembes.
