Breakbeats by Questlove is a compact drum kit that Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson developed together with Ludwig to be easy to carry and store, without giving up sound quality. It's built for gigging in clubs and rehearsal spaces where space is limited, but still delivers a real drum sound. Sold as a shell pack: bass drum, toms and snare, without cymbals, pedal or stands.

Construction

The shells are made from 7-ply hardwood with 45-degree bearing edges, giving a stable foundation for both attack and resonance despite the compact format. The toms carry Remo Pinstripe heads.

Sound Character

Portable kits often compromise on sound, but Breakbeats has a nice punch in the toms, and the snare delivers a distinct, clear crack rather than a thin small-kit tone.

Accessories and Dampening

A set of velvet storage bags is included. Besides protecting against dust and light scratches, they can also be placed on the drums as dampeners when volume needs to be kept down, for example at a low-volume gig. The bass drum riser platform is included in the delivery.

Who It's For

A good choice if you play club gigs, practice at home in an apartment, or simply want a real drum kit that fits in a smaller car. The kit is height-adjustable and works for both younger and adult drummers. Keep in mind it's sold as a shell pack – cymbals, pedal and stands are not included. We recommend flat-base stands for this kit.
