Big Band Grooves

Product Description

Big Band Grooves is a MIDI pack from Toontrack featuring drum grooves, fills and breaks inspired by the legendary drummers of the big band era. Ideal for laying down an authentic swing or latin drum foundation for jazz and big band arrangements, scoring or general songwriting.

The big band and swing era of the early 20th century defined much of what we still refer to as a "drum kit" and produced timeless icons such as "Papa" Jo Jones, Gene Krupa, Chick Webb and Buddy Rich. Big Band Grooves is performed in the shadow of these giants, ranging from sophisticated and subtle to fiercely intense and syncopated.

Content and variety

The pack contains more than 500 individually played files, performed by a classically trained jazz session drummer. The grooves are recorded in 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4, in both straight and swing feel, with tempos ranging from 85 to 296 BPM.

Material is organized into folders for swing feel: Slow, Medium, Medium Fast and Uptempo, and folders for straight feel: Latin, Bossa Nova and Songo. A dedicated section covers genre-typical tom grooves.

Use cases

Ideal for jazz and big band arrangements, scoring, and general songwriting where you need a credible, historically grounded rhythmic foundation.
